Offices, institutions, malls, and cafes are being opened after the global pandemic’s first lockdown, COVID-19. With our lives returning to normalcy, we still have to follow a set of rules and protective procedures to maintain personal hygiene and keep everyone safe around us.

All opening workplaces make crucial adjustments, such as providing their staff with PPE Supplies, checking their temperature on arrival, and setting up hand sanitizing and washing facilities on every building floor.

That said, if your office has resumed normalcy, then you must be wondering how you can stay safe and protected from the pandemic. Read on to learn more.

Social Distancing

Despite the opening of workplaces, much has changed as nothing is like before. The rule of social distancing remains a priority everywhere.  In this case, space sensors are used. They are useful and indoor motion detecting devices used to detect the presence of a person to automatically control lights or temperature or ventilation systems.

This means that according to regulations, only a certain percentage of people will be allowed in offices. Some offices will follow the rule of allowing 50% of their staff to the office; whereas, the remaining team will continue working from home.

The ‘one-way’ system is also more likely to be implemented in some offices. This system will ensure that people don’t pass too close to each other while moving along in the halls and through the doors.

There will be rules for using the office kitchen about communal cutlery, plates, and mugs. That said, you will have to embrace yourself for a whole variety of changes to follow in the face of the pandemic.

At the office, you will be required to keep your face mask on, which is quite understandable given the current circumstances. Face coverings are specifically important for workplaces that involve retail, healthcare, leisure, tourism, hospitality, etc.

As a rule of thumb, if you work at a place where dealing with the public is mandatory, then your face mask should be on the entire time.

However, if your work is linked to transportation, then there are fewer chances that you would be required to wear a mask. But, if you feel unable to socially distance yourself from passengers, then wearing a face mask is mandatory.

What are the Responsibilities of the Employers?

As a responsible employer, one needs to educate the employees about safety guidelines.  And ensure that the policies are duly followed.

The implementation of safety policies also provides the employees with the feeling of being supported and cared for.

If you are an employer, you might want to start educating your team about the importance of washing their hands and keeping them sanitized.

That said, a vital step towards a safe and protected work environment would be to put up machines with hand washing and sanitizing facilities. Another crucial step would be to regularly monitor employees’ temperature, especially when they enter the workplace.

As an employer, if you witness Corona symptoms in yourself, you need to take it seriously. Instead of brushing it off as the simple flu and seeing about it later, you are required to book a test and self-isolate immediately.

Some Extra Precautionary Steps to follow

You can never be safe enough to keep your workplace secure from COVID-19. This is why we recommend following some extra steps. For instance, you might make it mandatory for the entire staff to carry a portable hand-sanitizing gel with them at all times.

Contact between the employees should be reduced instantly. This includes the avoiding of one-to-one meetings. If you really have to meet with a client, you can do so on video-conference, such as Skype or Zoom.

Lunch breaks should be encouraged to be kept limited to each employee’s desk. Or, ask the team to opt for an outdoor space for lunch rather than using a communal space for lunch.
